At 102 years old, Pop has lived through nearly everything the modern world has seen, missing only the First World War. A World War II veteran, he reflects on a lifetime of change, challenge, and meaning with the kind of perspective that only a century of living can bring. Throughout the interview, he returns again and again to what mattered most in his life: family. Pop’s story is rich with wisdom, heart, and history, and it is one viewers will not soon forget. Pop lives independently today with the support of Griswold Home Care For Berks County, who assists with his daily needs and activities.
MEET HUTCH
Meet Hutch — a 99-year-old veteran who served in Korea and the Philippines during World War II. This conversation stands apart. His story deserved more time than usual, and it quickly became clear why. Hutch brings a rare balance of humor, honesty, and precision as he reflects on nearly a century of life. When asked, “Why did you go into the service?” his answer is immediate and direct: “Well, I was drafted. I had no choice.” That moment sets the tone—unfiltered, authentic, and rooted in reality. What follows is not just a recounting of history, but a life shaped by duty, resilience, family, and simple joys. Hutch speaks with clarity about his experiences, but just as easily shifts into warmth and humor especially when the conversation turns to golf, a lifelong passion that still brings him joy. Through the years, she helped shape generations, raising four sons and becoming grandmother to six grandchildren and great-grandmother to twelve great grandchildren.
